Getting Started

Before treatment can begin, an initial psychiatric evaluation is required. This is a one time procedure that begins with filling out all necessary forms and questionnaires in advance of your appointment. This can take 30-60 minutes so it is critical that it is completed in advance. (click “Get Forms” button below). Then, you will spend at least one hour with Dr. Martin for the evaluation. She will render an initial diagnosis and recommend a treatment plan.

To schedule a New Patient appointment, you will need to call our office: 972-994-0540
Follow-up appointments can be scheduled through this website but for the initial evaluation, we want to talk to you first, just to make sure you know what to expect and that Dr. Martin is the right fit for your needs. Adults (18 or older) must call to set up the appointment themselves. Parents or significant others of an adult person cannot schedule the appointment. If you suffer from social anxiety, you may have a proxy call to schedule but you must be present to confirm your intention to seek treatment.

More information can be found in the Frequently Asked Questions section below.

"Dr. Martin provides a comprehensive evaluation that explained why my child has difficulty in closed environments and has a hard time focusing. The most important people in my world are my children and I trust Dr. Martin to help them reach their potential."

FAQs

Does Dr. Martin accept my insurance?

Dr. Martin does not accept assignment of benefits and no longer participates in any network. We will provide you with documentation from each visit to assist you in filing your claims. Your insurance plan will reimburse you directly. Our practice is committed to providing the best treatment for our patients and we charge what is usual and customary for our area. We have no agreements to offer discounts for specific plans.

Is Dr. Martin a therapist?

While Dr. Martin will need to talk to you extensively about your personal life, she is a medical doctor that specializes in the pharmacological treatment of mental disorders and does not do therapy. But she does highly recommend it! If she believes that therapy is required, she will refer you to a counselor that will suit your particular needs. (For more information on local therapists, visit our Resources page.)

How often do I have to see Dr. Martin?

It all depends on the treatment. Every patient is different so it’s difficult to predict. However, in most cases, Dr. Martin will require a follow-up “Med Check” appointment every 3-6 months (in some cases, more frequently), depending on your diagnosis/diagnoses and treatment plan.

I’ve already been evaluated by my previous doctor. Do I have to have another evaluation?

Yes. Dr. Martin must evaluate you, herself. While your previous psychiatrist may have been an excellent evaluator and practitioner, Dr. Martin cannot rely on their opinion to diagnose and treat you. This is just good medicine. If you are already on a treatment plan that works for you, Dr. Martin will likely continue that treatment.

Do I have to see Dr. Martin in person?

Yes. Dr. Martin must evaluate your mental state. This includes, not only your speech and mood, but your movements, behavior, physical appearance and presentation, and many other factors. She is not able to assess these things over the phone or on a video call.
